Philippians 4:8

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.”

This verse has packed a punch for me in my life for decades. It has been one of the verses that consistently comes to mind when I think of my life as a Christ follower verses a world follower.

The world has it’s own way of doing things. All too often the world doesn’t shy away from being scandalous, or accusatory, or vain. But as a follower of Jesus, I am challenged by this verse to not do things like the world, but instead do things that are noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable. Sometimes that means being a little different than the rest of the world. But when you are different in a good way, all too often you begin to attract people to you who want more of whatever it is that you are lighting the room with. When you live a life like Jesus, people don ‘t always know what it is about you that makes them want to be around you, but they do know that you make them feel brighter and more joyful; and that is because you have the light of Christ dwelling in you as you try to keep your daily walk in line with this verse.
